“A woman with a voice is, by definition, a strong woman.”
Dear Brooke Roberts,
Life has come full circle! In summer 2014, I began my internship with GoAbroad. Your name began to pop up around the office. The work you did, created, and the lifetime of genius you left behind was evident. Even before I began my summer with GoAbroad, I had started searching for career advice. My interest lied in entering the field of International Education.
Yet, the solution seemed to be to get a Master’s. I ran upon this magnificent article How to Get a Job in Study Abroad WITHOUT a Master’s Degree. I read through the article, nodded, made notes, and subscribed to your blog. I didn’t forsee the amazing opportunities to come when I hit that button.
Fast forward to 2015 when I returned home from Quito, a trip courtesy of GoAbroad and Kaya Travel. I received your newsletter that advertised your search for interns. Similar to my GoAbroad experience, I doubted my suitability for the intern position. I wasn’t a college student trying to get her feet wet. And, I wasn’t a recent graduate getting ready to enter the workforce. Instead, at 26-years-old, I had some life experience and a master’s degree. But, I applied anyway and later you brought me on as an intern.
Lucky me to have worked with some of the greatest minds in the IE field already. Your brilliance radiates wherever you go. And, at our first meeting with the interns, your depth of knowledge was apparent. It was clear you are an expert and a human encyclopedia.
The great thing about the experience is the cycle of opportunities that resulted well after the end of the internship. You’re the gift that keeps on giving.
You are a great resource, mentor, and badass! I can’t get enough of you!
